Publisher Description

Four childhood friends in present-day New Orleans are torn apart by envy, passion, and a secret murder.

Five years ago, Meredith, Brandon, Greg, and Stephen quickly discover the fragile boundaries between friendship and betrayal as they enter high school and form new allegiances. Meredith, Brandon, and Greg gain popularity, while Stephen is viciously treated as an outcast. Then two violent deaths destroy the already delicate bonds of their friendship.

When the friends are drawn back together, new facts about their mutual history are exposed and what was held to be a tragic accident is revealed as murder. As the true story emerges, other secrets begin to unravel with more dangerous, far-reaching consequences.

A Destiny of Souls is a stunning debut novel that uncovers the darker side of the teenage psyche.

"I really enjoyed this book- it's not for everyone but I found the language (both gritty and poetic) lovely. I believe this to be a wonderful first novel. You can definitely tell where real life issues are woven into the novel but it adds to the sympathy you feel for the characters. As I read I will admit I kept asking myself why nothing good happened to any of the characters- it seems everything that can go wrong does- however the more I thought about it the more I realized that life isn't roses and some people/groups are prone to tragedy- especially when you allow and cultivate it like the wealthy in the novel."

" This was Anne Rice's son Christopher Rice's first novel. I was amazed with the excellence of storyline, the unexpected twists and the cleverly planned mystery that unfolded. I'm definitely going to read The Snow Garden, his second novel. "

" I picked this up in a second-hand store because the title caught me. It's a tragic and intriguing story. Some bits strain credibility and knocked me out of the suspension of disbelief momentarily, but overall I enjoyed the read. It's a lot darker than I normally go for, but I'm glad I stayed with it until the end because the author did an excellent job wrapping it up. So often I come to the end of novel and find myself disappointed, but this left me with that immediate sense of nostalgia, like I had just left old friends behind. "

" This was an excellent debut novel for Christopher Rice. ound it almost exhausting at time to read, because of the heaviness of the story. The plot was quite involved, and the end was somewhat disturbing. I would recommend to anyone not real religious, I guess, is the best way to put it. "
