Publisher Description

Nestled in the hills of the Cotswolds, the village of Duntisbourne Abbots is a well-kept secret. When Joel Jennison is found slaughtered in the same field where his brother's corpse had lain ten weeks previously, a whole community falls under suspicion. Was it a family feud? An act of revenge? As a forty-something woman with no previous experience of detective work, Thea Osborne knows she shouldn't be getting involved but as she calls on her neighbours to get some answers, she uncovers more tragedy and intrigue that she thought possible behind the chocolate-box façade of a peaceful Gloucestershire village.

"Another in Tope's Cotswolds series featuring house-sitter/widow Thea Osborne and her detective BF Phil. These give a real flavor of the area, and reflect her interest in canals, gardening, dogs and farm life, all within the conventions of a traditional murder mystery. "

" I enjoyed this book but perhaps not quite as much as I expected to. It's set not far from where I live but somehow I could never make the fictitious setting quite fit with places I know. This is apparently the first in a series featuring the main character and various places in the area and I'm still undecided whether to try the next one. "

" Enjoyable stuff as always from Rebecca Tope. Commendable because it's in many ways got a typical 'cosy' mystery setup (newly widowed housesitter stumbles into murder investigation in pretty village) but managed to never make me scream 'no, don't go down the dark staircase to the cellar alone without a torch!' even though the central character did some things that were almost as bad as going down that rickety staircase a few times. " This is a new series for me. I enjoyed the scenery, and the main character is interesting as well as a new kind of amateur sleuth. I will read the rest of these. "

" I love the Cotswolds so I thought this series would be fun. The plots are stilted and the characters pretty predictable but the setting is fabulous. "

" Beautiful prose but the story is rather tedious. Rather unlikable main character who does everything but what she is being paid well to do: house sit. I'll give book two a try before I decide if this series is worth it. "

" This is a pretty good book. The only reason I picked it up is because the Cotswold's is one of my favorite regions of England. It is beautiful there. As far as mysteries go - it is your typical English village mystery with some twists and turns. It's an easy read if that is what you are looking for. "

" On Chapter 13 of 23. Its dry, a little interesting but I'm mostly just reading to see who the murder is. Not very entertaining. Very boring yet oddly creepy. Not very good storyline. "
