" A lovely little book. Thomas recalls a Christmas Day when he was a child. Wonderful read. "

" This is a dear little book. It is told in lyrical prose and evokes a simpler time. I will add it to my yearly reads. The illustrations are lovely, too. "

" I thought that this would be a light read-aloud for the kids during the holidays, but that is not the case. The phrase that came to mind when I read this was "stream-of-consciousness". I have been exposed to some British culture, but this was very British in a way that was difficult to follow. I may try to read this again when I am in a different frame of mind, but it didn't fit what I wanted at the time. "

" I finally read this in its entirety, and immediately wanted to read it over again and hear it read aloud. My usual reading diet is not this poetic, and this style is so suited for childhood memories and their dreamlike, fragmented quality that is more about a feeling than anything. "

" I'm a sucker for Christmas, and this dour Welsh adult description of a child's joy brought on by Christmastime in Wales is for me quite compelling. I bought it so that my daughter and I could read it to a friend at Christmas, but she died before we could do that. "

" Another annual Christmas-time read. This book is lyrical. I enjoy it more each time I read it and keep thinking I want to see if I can find an ancient recording of it being read by the author, if such a thing exists. (Note:I may be a little partial to this poet since he is my hubby's namesake). "
