Publisher Description

As Miss Marple sat basking in the Caribbean sunshine, she felt mildly discontented with life. True, the warmth eased her rheumatism, but here in paradise nothing ever happened. Eventually, her interest was aroused by an old soldier's yarn about a strange coincidence.

Infuriatingly, just as he was about to show her an astonishing photograph, the Major's attention wandered. He never did finish the story.... June Whitfield stars as the sharp-witted spinster sleuth in a BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisation.

"Its a classic Miss Marple mystery. My favorite part of the book was a conversation between Miss Marple and Mr. Rafiel on pg 144 'Life is more worth living, more full of interest when you are likely to lose it. ... When you're young and strong and healthy, and life stretches ahead of you, living isn't really important at all. ... But old people know how valuable life is and how interesting.'"

" Very good characters, but for the first time, I felt like this was too easy to solve. Often I have a hint of who the murderer is, or I'm halfway right in my suspicions--this one was too obvious. But the idea of Miss Marple being involved from beginning to end and having to employ allies (notably Mr. Rafiel, who is a great character) because she's too frail, was intereating and real. "

" Miss Marple is delightful as ever, although it must be noted that Dame Christie is incapable of writing characters of color in a non-offensive way. "

" Overall, not one of Christie's best, but suspect-obscuring clouds still hang heavy of this work. However, I managed to guess the murderer halfway through, for the first time ever in a Christie book. "

" A delightful mystery featuring Miss Marple. I'm usually not fond of travel mysteries, but this one is the exception to the rule, giving us a spinster far from home, but in a familiar setting. The plot is fairly straight-forward and mixes multiple murders with a sunny clime. "
