" I read this book for my book club and I can't wait to discuss it. The story is sent in 1950's South Africa and is about the search to find the killer of a white man. There is so much history involved in this time period that I found myself looking up more information on the internet. The book jacket said that the story is the first of a series so I look forward to future books in the series. The descriptions of the town and characters were excellent. I couldn't imagine living through such a conflicted time. A great mystery read that you won't want to put down. "

" Powerful writing and a stomach-turning description of South AFrica as Apartheid legislation was ruthlessly put in place in the early Fifties. Must read on how a twisted ideology can pervert a country and its social/civil institutions "

" My first book about South Africa. Set up at the beginning of Apartheid, this book skillfully handled the situation between Boers, English, black and color people. Apartheid used to be a noun to me, now it's a word with deep meaning. Writing is beyond the mystery level. "
