Publisher Description

'My name is Kyle Straker and I don't exist any more.' So begins the story of Kyle Straker, recorded on old audio tapes. You might think these tapes are a hoax. But perhaps they contain the history of a past world....

If what the tapes say are true, it means that everything we think we know is a lie. And if everything is a lie, does that mean that we are, too?

A gripping, fabulously imaginative sci-fi story for older children from debut author Mike Lancaster.

"I actually finished this in just a few hours. It is an excellent book, but has a few flaws in it. It's supposed to be a recording of someone's story but the flow is too good and reads too much like someone wrote it. The overall idea is excellent and, as I said, I finished it in one sitting because I just couldn't put it down. My biggest problem is it didn't instill a sense of horror like I suspect it was trying to do, but just couldn't make it. All in all, it reminds me of Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale" but geared towards the YA crowd."

" Quick read, both because it is short, and because the story makes you want to keep reading. Has some interesting ideas, though none of the characters drew me in much. It could have been about anyone really. Still, I enjoyed it. "

" I definitely thought the 1st half of the book was better than the 2nd but overall it was just...ok. It was creepy at times but I couldn't get into it so I was thankful that it was a quick read. "

" Very interesting idea. Execution pretty outline-ish: characters programmed to act out their bits of the script. Simple structure: a good sell to reluctant readers. "

" Fine, i guess. Very original, and the Kyle's theory at the end of the book made me shiver. 3.5 stars. I don't think the audiobook format helped, i think i' would've given it more if I'd read it. "
