The Darwin Awards commemorate those who improve our gene pool by removing themselves from it, showing us just how uncommon common sense can be! Meet the absentminded terrorist who opens a mail bomb returned to him for insufficient postage. Marvel at the thief who steals electrical wires before shutting off the current. Gape at the would-be pilot who flies his lawn chair suspended from helium balloons into air-traffic lanes. These tales of trial and awe-inspiring error illustrate the ongoing saga of survival of the fittest in all its selective glory! The author has appeared in USA Today, Entertainment Weekly, the New York Daily News, Boston Herald, Publisher Weekly, BookPage and CNN.com.

"This book was pretty entertaining (and shocking at some points). This book makes it quite clear why getting drunk is not a good idea. I gave this book 4 stars because there were comma errors on practically every entire page. And the chapter on penis problems--I read maybe one story from that chapter. Pretty frakkin' gross."

“A warning to all dimwits…One of the greatest pleasures of the collection is scanning the index, which runs from ‘A literal fountain of cess’ to ‘Yosemite National park’—a glittering cache of improbably causes of death.”
— Salon“The Darwin Awards is a riot to read. Deeply entertaining.”
— San Francisco Weekly“If you think somebody up there doesn’t have a wicked sense of humor, The Darwin Awards may change your mind.”
— Amazon.com, editorial review“Jason Harris does an excellent job of reading each reported incident; basically, they sound like stand-up comedy: yarn after yarn of such astounding stupidity that one cannot help but laugh. The lack of common sense exhibited here is undoubtedly comical, but Harris’ reading accentuates the fact that beneath the laughter lurks a kind of pathetic sadness.”
— Publishers Weekly“If you’re tickled by the spectacle of a man who electrocuted fish with household current, then waded in to harvest his catch without removing the wire, this bestseller will have you in stitches…Jason Harris is almost laughing himself as he reads.”
— AudioFile" I found this book hilarious. now I know better than to speak ill of the dead but come on. most of these people really asked for it. What in the world WERE they thinking? LoL "
— Jeannie, 2/19/2014" Sooo funny. Self-inflicted and fate-filled incidents to take individuals from the gene pool. Should be tragic, but it isn't... "
— T, 2/10/2014" It was good for a quick read and a laugh. Wouldn't read it more than once though. "
— Fawn, 1/30/2014" Silly reading and quite scary to see how stupid some people really are. It is amazing we have evolved this far. "
— Marie, 1/10/2014" Turns out truth is actually funnier than fiction. "
— David, 12/28/2013" I love these Darwin Awards books. They're great to read when you have other things going on because each story is so short. I can literally pick this up when I have 30 free seconds and get a laugh. Many of them I read out loud to my husband as well. My 10 and 8 year olds also enjoy them, although the 8 year old misses a lot of references. A warning: I did wind up having to explain, "Mom, what's S&M sex?" to the 10 year old. Oh well, gotta explain it sometime... At least the guy it referred to was a moron, so I liked the context. :) "
— Ashley, 12/28/2013" A selection of entertaining tales of human mishaps leading to death or infertility, with plenty of 'honorable mentions' for those lucky enough to avoid snuffing it. "
— Marlowe, 12/25/2013" Funny stories to read before bed! "
— Katelyn, 12/25/2013" how people are dumb enough to off themselves in such fashion is humorus "
— Benjamin, 12/18/2013" this book is ok for a good laugh, but don't sit and read it all at once it will make you doubt human inteligence. "
— Tonie, 12/7/2013" Sad but true ways people have died. Some are so bizarre and obviously a bad idea, that you can't help but laugh that someone would even try to do that. "
— Tammy, 11/27/2013" This books contains compilation of Human stupidity. The story describe how crazy idea is implemented and ended in tragedy. Although the reading is quite interesting, it is told on formal languange. "
— Rion, 11/13/2013" Toooo Funnnnnny "

— Robbins', 11/22/2011" It is what it is. If you know the website, then this is that. In book form. Which is much easier for toilet reading (for some reason, people still look at you funny if you bring a wifi connected laptop into the crapper). "
— Brandon, 9/22/2011" A good bathroom book. Although entertaining, I found the book's self-righteous tone unnecessary. I am perfectly capable of finding entertainment in the misfortune of others, without having to be convinced that the individuals where somehow deserving of their misfortunes. "
— ein, 9/9/2011" What could be more funny than a book about people doing soo many stupid things that they end up killing themselves? Of these are true and are not fictional. "
— Liz, 8/29/2011" Great bathroom reading :) "
— Henri, 8/11/2011" It's a funny book that will pass the time on the bus, the train, or in a house bathroom. You will have a hard time believing some of the stories, but you will not have a hard time laughing at the people it references. There are some very hilarious true stories in the book. "
— poiboy, 7/22/2011" The author thinks the same way as I do. But when I put in a question on the topic in the answerbag some 2 years back about removing undesirable gene from the pool - well - I was told I was thinking the way Hitler thought! <br/>I very much appreciate this book and recommend it to one and all! "
— Suby, 5/14/2011" Not only a HUGE Fan I am also quoted in this tome (my one claim to fame). At the time I used a different nom de plume. If anyone is interested I will own up to my quote, but until them it’s more fun to guess ;) "
— Ryan, 4/30/2011" It was good for a quick read and a laugh. Wouldn't read it more than once though. "
— Fawn, 4/27/2011" this book is ok for a good laugh, but don't sit and read it all at once it will make you doubt human inteligence. "
— Tonie, 3/16/2011" Pretty quirky shorts and some out right gross to even think that someone would actually do the actions told about. A good quick read for light entertainment though. "
— Cathy, 1/12/2011" I loved this book it is really funny, it shows the human stupidity at its peaks and that however much we evolve we will always have boneheads among us. "
— Collin, 12/19/2010" The first few stories were amusing and then it just got repetitive. Yeah, people are stupid. Some people are REALLY stupid. "
— Jana, 11/12/2010" The entire series just reinforces Einsteins quote that there are two thing that are infinite 1) the Universe & 2) human stupidity and this weeding out the imbeciles before they breed is not going fast enough for Humanity becoming ending up like something out of the movie "Idiocracy" "
— Kozmo, 10/21/2010" Gotta love when humans weed themselves out. Sad but true stories. "
— Jennifer, 8/27/2010" Sooo funny. Self-inflicted and fate-filled incidents to take individuals from the gene pool. Should be tragic, but it isn't... "
