"After reading this incredible story I think that Mark Wahlberg and the other people responsible for the movie "shooter" should be charged with desecration. This is an incredible story, Hunter takes the incredulous and makes it believable. Tres Bien!!! "

" Hunter's Bob Lee Swagger books are all dark as Swagger's world isn't a pretty one but I enjoy these books for the glimpse of a place I will likely never really comprehend and I will never want to live..or even visit for that matter. "
— S., 2/18/2014" thriller in which Swagger is framed for attempted murder of the President. Made into the film Shooter. "
— Randy, 2/16/2014" Ok, mixed review here...parts of this book I LOVED...however, there is no time in my life that I desire or will EVER desire to read page after page of how the same types of bullets, loaded by different means, hit a target and what causes millimeters difference on that target. I mean, it went on and on page after page...it must be a guy thing.....if you could have taken all that out it would have gotten a much higher rating from me. I will read the others in the series...just not any time soon!!! "
— Connie, 2/9/2014" If you liked the movie Shooter you'll definitely like this book. It would be good to read independently as well. Was a good action mystery book. "
— Drew, 2/8/2014" If you're wanting a can't put down page turner, full of action and surprises, here's the book for you. Recommended by one of my favorite local suspense/thriller authors, Phillip Margolin. "
— Linda, 2/5/2014" this is a long book that is very easy to read... if you undertake the progress on its own terms, though for me- not very interested in details about guns, not very convinced by cliche characters, or superhero protagonist, or conspiracy politics- oh and did mention guns? if this were shorter, if this had ironies somewhere, maybe if it seemed more an interesting portrayal of the gun culture, the government, FBI, marines, Vietnam vet, well it can be that the other characters might make lit stories, but not likely. a friend from the art supply store really likes this, so read it, but do not think will remember it or want to read another- read 'soft target' by same author earlier but that was not said his best. for some raters this is his best, so once again, as far as popular fiction am definitely in a very very small minority... — thegift, 1/30/2014" This is the book that the movie Shooter was based on. Bob Lee Swagger is a former Marine Sniper, one of the best in the world. When approached by a shadowy organization to do some consulting he is, at first, reluctant but ultimately hooked. Once he realizes he's been duped, he goes about settling the score with the same methodical precision that made him legendary in the service. While some of the characters and characterizations irked me pretty badly (I have yet to see a female character in his books that was more than a means to an end; I did appreciate the half paragraph in which a female character explains how everyone but the man she's talking to saw her as 'a honey' but we as readers are never shown differently) Hunter has some solid writing in here and some nice word usage. The plot arcs and scenes are nicely layered and the twist, though telegraphed early and left hanging over four hundred pages, played out with rich, cinematic (in my head) detail. "
— Mairi, 1/29/2014" Well written. The movie "Shooter" does not do the story justice. No big surprise there. "
— Andrew, 1/18/2014" This was good and followed the movie but I think the version I listened too was abridged and seemed to go way to fast. "
— Clint, 1/18/2014" If you read the book - DO NOT watch the movie!!! "
— Kristie, 12/29/2013" Didn't expect to, but I really enjoyed this book. A little guilty confession and even I have a dark side. Seriously if you're in the mood for a fast paced CIA/FBA corruption story with a manly hero with a heart of gold (sort of), you might try this. "
